DIY Rice Water for Hair Growth

Rice Water For Fast Hair Growth

During the Heian period in Japan, women had floor-length hair that they cared for by using rice water. A similar tradition can be seen in China today.

Rice water boosts hair growth and elasticity in various ways. Rice contains a potent mix of amino proteins, antioxidants, vitamin E, B vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.

It makes dull or fine hair stronger and shinier while curly hair benefits from all the bounce it gives. And, of course, those with damaged and thinning hair will love the inositol that promotes hair growth and thickens strands. Transform your dull or fine hair into a luscious mane of strength and shine, while your curls will thank you for the added bounce. And let's not forget about those with damaged or thinning hair who will benefit from the inositol that promotes growth and thickens strands.

Ingredients: Uncooked rice

Method

  1. Take 1/2 a cup of rice and rinse with water to remove impurities such as dirt and dust. You can use a strainer for this.
  2. Using two to three cups of water, stir the rice in a bowl and leave to soak for 30 minutes until the water becomes cloudy (but it can be left for up to 24 hours).
  3. After you’ve allowed your rice to soak, strain it and keep the water in either a plastic container or mason jar.
  4. Next, shampoo your hair.
  5. When you’ve rinsed out the shampoo, apply the rice water (as you would conditioner) massaging it gently into your scalp and hair strands. Leave it on for 20 minutes.
  6. After you’ve thoroughly rinsed your hair, complete this routine with a good hair conditioner of your choice.

Although the magical properties of rice water seem endless, there is one thing to look out for. Be sure to rinse off the rice water thoroughly, and not to overdue it, as the abundance of protein in the water may actually dry out your hair if not enough moisture is provided. Begin by only using the rice water twice a week and monitoring how your hair feels. If it's still feeling dry, cut down usage to once a week and add conditioner before the rice water for extra moisture. Increase usage slowly, until you find the right balance for your hair.

Remember, the key to beautiful, healthy hair with rice water is finding the perfect balance. Take your time to adjust the frequency of use and add extra moisture when needed.

Top Tip: Enhance the nutritional benefits of your hair with fermented rice water. Follow the instructions above, then leave the water out for an additional 24-48 hours to ferment before use.
